Two Step Sparring Format

Two-Step Sparring (i-bo mat-so-gi):

At this level of step sparring, the attacker measuring distance to the defender, is no longer considered necessary.  The student should already have a good concept of distance and should not have to step the distance off.  It is very important the exercise is not hurried.  The student may use up to three counter attacks.  The attacker at this level will attack from a right L-stance guarding block using hand/foot or foot/hand combination.  It is suggested that the student add foot blocks and flying techniques at higher ranks.

SAMPLE:

BOTH: Attacker and defender must come to attention and bow.

ATTACKER: Step back into a right L-stance middle guarding block and ki-hap.  After the Defender's ki-hap moving forward execute a right low front snap kick while maintaining hands in a guarding position stepping down into a right walking stance.  After the defender's block; stepping forward into a left walking stance and executing a left high punch with the forefist.

DEFENDER: After the attacker ki-hap, step left into a parallel ready stance and tell the attacker to execute a low front kick and high punch. Then ki-hap, as the attack is executed step back with the right foot into a left walking stance and execute a left low block with the outer forearm.  On the second attack, step back with the left foot into a right walking stance while executing a right high block with the outer forearm.

COUNTER: While maintining a left walking stance execute a right reverse middle punch with the forefist.  Then stepping back into an L-stance guarding block and ki-hap.

BOTH: Attacker and Defender step forward into parallel ready stance.
