Attendance Guidelines
Attendance at formal classes is an important requirement that helps
the Taekwon-Do student learn, polish and refine techniques. In addition, General Choi said, "A good student must
be willing to sacrifice for his art." (Condensed Encyclopedia p. 45) Sacrifice means to give up something
good for something better. Our time is our most valueable asset, it is very limited and we must carefully choose how
we use it. Dan testing is a very important step in Taekwon-Do training, only those that are willing to make the sacrifice
of their time will become I Dan Black Belt and above.
Those
that are advanced students and are planning on Dan testing are required to actively train for a minimum of 6 months immediately
prior to their test date. Active training is considered a minimum of class attendance twice a week. 50 classes
are the minimum number that must be taken during the 6 month period immediately prior to the test date. Classes taken
prior to 6 month of the test date do not count towards this testing requirement. Multiple classes taken on the same
day count as 1 class.
I Dan Post-Testing Training Requirements
Those students who pass their I Dan testing will be given a provisional
status. Any student who wishes to go on be certified as a I Dan and receive the traditional black trim on their uniform
must continue to train actively for 12 months, attending 100 classes, helping during at least 2 color belt tests and participating
in at least 2 tournaments. Any student who teaches on a regular basis will certified a I Dan after 6 months of
active training and teaching, attending 50 classes, helping at 2 color belt tests and participate in 1 Tournament. Please
see your Instructor with any questions.
