| General Choi Hong Hi, IX Dan |
Since we do not have contracts in our school, alot of our policies are simply oral or "understood".
To help avoid miscommunications and misunderstandings this section of the web site will have many (but not all) School Policies
in written form. It will be added to as matters arise.
INACTIVE STUDENT STATUS - The following policy is based on General Choi's philosophy of the need for constant and consistant training.
A student is considered inactive if he/she has not participated in training for at least 30 days. Inactive students
lose all accumulated classes for determining testing eligibility and will start at zero classes when they become active
again.
SPARRING: Sparring is a regular and
required part of all normal Tae Kwon Do classes. Participation in sparring is not optional anymore than it is
optional to participate in patterns, line drills, self defense or step sparring. Occassionally a student may not be
able to participate in sparring due to illness or injury, if this is the case the student needs to speak to the Instructor
about non-participation in the sparring portion of class. With very few exceptions, if a student is not healthy
enough to spar, then the student is not healthy enough to participate in other class activities. If a student has health
concerns he or she needs to discuss it with the Instructor.
All students
who participate in sparring must, for safety purposes, have and wear their own protective gear including mouth guard,
foot pads, hand pads, head gear and cup for men. There are no exceptions for using a mouth guard and cup for men.
Occassionally a student may not have hand pads, foot pads or head gear for whatever reason with them in class, the Instructor
will make a case by case decision on whether a student may participate in the sparring portion of class if they are missing
hand pads, foot pads or head gear.
Any student who consistantly "forgets"
to bring the required protective gear to class in order to avoid participating in the sparring portion of class will not be
allowed to test.
Additional protective gear is acceptable
(ie. shin/instep guards), but must be approved of by the Instructor before the student can use the protective gear in class.
The school has carefully chosen the masterline hand pads, foot pads and head gear for their durability,
reasonable price and general acceptablility in tournaments. If a student wants to purchase equipment other than that
which is available through the school, he or she must get Instructor approval to use different style protective gear in class
for the safety of all students.
TUITION: Our school does not
employ contracts that obligates students to any length of payment terms. We are month to month only! Tuition is
due on the 1st (first) of each month. There is a 10 day grace period for tuition payment after which there is a
$15 late fee. Prompt payment is appreciated!
There
is no cash refund for tuition payment if a student quits during the month or cannot complete training during a month due to
debilitating injury, serious illness or death in the family. In some cases a credit for classes
will be given in the form of additional classes (not cash value) if a student cannot complete classes during a month
when they have already paid their tuition. The credit may be used in the following month. Credits for classes
beyond the following month is to be decided by the Instructor. These credit options are to be used ONLY in extreme cases,
students should make every reasonable effort to attend class during the month. If a student abuses these options the
Instructor may waive forwarding credits.
If a
student decides to prepay more than one month at a time, the above policy for refunds and credit applies for any and all month(s)
that are prepaid.
Class by Class Payment:
We do not offer this option in general, however, if special circumstances warrant it (school or work schedule, illness or
injury, extended vacations), a student must inform the Head Instructor by the first of the month the reasons for requestiong
this option. This option is NOT for students who fail to pay their tuition at the beginning of the month and paying
by class would be less than paying monthly. If approved the student must pay at each class attended.
Single class fee is $25 for each class.
TESTING PROCEDURES AND FEES: Students
may test if they are BOTH eligible (meets attendance requirements) and ready (meets curriculum requirements). If
a student is eligible but not ready they must wait to test until they are prepared to demonstrate all curriculum requirements
satisfactorily. The Instructor will decide whether a student is ready. Testings are scheduled approximately
every 8 weeks for White and Color Belts. Test forms and fees are due 10 days prior to each test. Test forms
are available on this web site. If the registration form is not received by the deadline, the student will not receive
a belt and certificate following the test even if he/she passes the test (the student will receive his/her belt the next
time the Instructor orders belts). If the test fee has been paid and the student withdraws from testing there is
no cash refund, the student will receive a credit to be used for the next testing. If a student does not pass the test,
his/her test fee will be credited to the re-test at the next testing date. Testing credits may not be used for class tution.
Students are not allowed to test if they are past due on tution or equipment purchases. Any student who presents himself/herself
for testing on the scheduled date without a test form will NOT be allowed to test.
5th Gup Green with Blue Stripe, 4th Gup Blue and 3rd Gup Blue with Red Stripe are required to pass off all patterns,
step sparring and self defense before receiving permission to test. The student must print up a test form, then present
the test form to any 1st Gup Red Belt or Black Belt and request to pass off any of the above items. Students are allowed
to only pass off one item per day. If the student passes an item the Senior will intial to the right of the item on
the test sheet. If a student does not pass off an item they must wait one week while practicing what the Senior
recommends should be fixed. A student must return to the same Senior to pass off any item that was previously presented
without passing. If a student losses the test paper with signatures, they must begin again with a new test paper
Red and Black Belt tests are scheduled semi-anually in February and August
of each year. Test forms, pass off sheets and fees are due 21 days prior to testing. If the test fee has been
paid and the student withdraws from testing there is no cash refund, the student will receive a credit to be used for the
next testing. Testing credits may not be used for class tution.
ATTENDANCE: Class attendance is up
to the individual student. It is suggested and a common practice to attend a minimum of twice a week to be considered
active training. All Young Champions and 10th Gup White - 5th Gup Green Belt students have a minimum number
of classes they must attend before they are ELIGIBLE* to test. 4th Gup Blue and above have
no "minimum number of classes" attendance requirement, they are required to be actively training for the time specified
in their curriculum. Active training is defined as above, minimum of 2 classes
a week. 4th Gup and above students are welcome to attend only one class a week, however if they do not attend the
minimum of two classes per week for the required amount of time they will not be eligible to test. The reason for this
requirement is that through extensive experience in martial arts training it has been proven that most martial arts students
cannot be adequately prepared for rank advancement with only one class per week. This requirement is in the best interest
of all students.
*Eligible only means
that a student has satisfied the time of training requirement, it does not mean that the student is ready to test, that decision
must be made by the Instructor.
TRAINING PRIVLEGES - Centennial Taekwon-Do
is a traditional martial arts school, our goal is to provide a positive and friendly enviroment for people to train in Taekwon-Do
and Martial Arts. Everyone is welcome to train at our school regardless of age, gender, or race. All students
are expected to to closely follow the Tenets of Taekwon-Do while training in order to assure a positive and friendly training
atmosphere. Training privleges or not a right to be purchased with tutition. It is the responsability of the Head
Instructor to maintain an appropriate enviroment for the school as a whole. If a student is disruptive to the
training of other students due to behavior, actions, speech or attitude, it is up to the discretion of the Head Instructor
to ask the disruptive student to leave the School. Any student asked to leave the School based on these circumstances
will be refunded the balance of their monthly tutition taking into account any drop-in fees.
STUDENT UNIFORMS: As part of the
Tae Kwon Do tradition and as a matter of etiquette, all students must wear all white uniforms. The official school uniform
has the Centennial Taekwon-Do name on the back. Students may NOT wear uniforms from other schools while in class, tests
or tournaments. Students are expected to wear uniform tops during class unless the instructor announces otherwise.
If a student wears a t-shirt under the uniform top, the t-shirt must be white as a matter of tradition and etiquette.
Uniforms should be kept clean and pressed. School approved patches may be worn on the uniform. These patches include,
ITF Patch, USA Flag and Colorado Flag and any other promotion or achievement patches and stripes earned in class. Logos
and patches of other schools are inappropriate.
Please DO NOT wear uniform top and belt outside
of the school, this is a matter of ettiquete.
UNIFORMS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES, TESTS AND TOURNAMENTS
WEAPONS CLASS: Weapons and other non-Taekwon-Do
classes are secondary to the normal Taekwon-Do classes at our school. Any student who wishes to particpate in weapons
or other types of classes offered through our programs must first be enrolled currently in a regular Taekwon-Do class and
must then get Instructor approval.
JEWLERY and PIERCINGS: Absolutely
no jewelery or piericings are allowed to be worn in class, testing or tournaments as a matter of safety for the student and
others.
NO FOOD or DRINK:
Abolutely no food or drink is allowed in the Centennial School or any host facility (ie. Coyote Creek Elementary). The
only exception is water or other clear sports drinks.
RETURNED CHECK FEE: For those students
who pay by check, if the bank returns a check for any reason, there is a $10 Returned Check fee that needs to be added to
the original amount to cover our bank processing fees.
SNOW DAYS: During the winter months,
if snow or weather conditions do not permit the school to open on a regular schedule, there will be a message about the closure
on phone number 303-814-0152 at 5:00 pm of the day of the closure. If there is no message about a closure after 5:00
pm, there will be a classes held despite weather conditions.
During the 2011/2012
winter season, a message of any cancellation will be broadcast via Facebook, to all those who are "Fans" of the
Centennial Taekwon-Do page. The broadcast will also go at at 5:00 pm the day of the closure.
Since there are classes available at least 5 days a week, no credit or refund will be given for a closure due to
weather. Students are expected to make up the class on another day.
